Truth of Clouds I, 1995 (left); Truth of Clouds II, 2019 (right)

This piece was first created around 1995. It began its life as a 40×60 inch fiber print of a disused railway cut in Sainte-Adèle, Quebec. I originally rebuilt the top part of the image substituting photographs of clouds for the rock underneath.

In 2019, I cut the piece in half. The upper section of the image became a new work on its own, and the bottom half of the image was rebuilt with a new form – a geometric cloud fallen to earth. The shape of this earthbound cloud was evolved through a series of charcoal sketches on A4 photocopies, then collaged onto the original print, using images from John Constable’s cloud studies printed on 28gsm Tosa Washi paper.
